Happy 2017!
I don’t have to tell you that 2016 has been really good to me. After years of working in the Dutch comic scene, I was finally introduced to the French, Belgian, British and American scene. All I can say is that I love my job even more now! I met some of my heroes, like Scott McCloud, Frank Pé, Lambil, and animator Michael Dudok de Wit. And most of it happened through the release of my graphic novel ‘The Return of the Honey Buzzard’. It was finally launched in France by Dargaud, in Spain by Ponent Mon, in Serbia by Komiko and in the US / UK by Selfmadehero. The film based on the book was finished too, and all I can say is that it’s really, really good. It will broadcast on Dutch TV soon. Also, one of my childhood dreams came true: I had the chance to work with the great people of Dupuis and Spirou. And as for animation, after working our asses off for a year, Lavinia Meijer, Arthur Antoine and I finished our 70-minute animation project Behind the Telescopes.
Probably my most memorable time was at SPX Washington – though I had only spent 4 days there, somehow I can still feel the afterglow. The people there were so welcoming and inspiring that I really want to try and get back this year.
