Tomorrow: workshop “Manga for grownups” (Manga voor volwassenen)

Tomorrow, April 10 from 3 pm till 4 pm, I will present a brand new manga workshop at the SieboldHuis in Leiden. This museum of Japanese culture in the center of the city has organised a fantastic Manga-Weekend (starting today). There’s a variety in workshops, talks on manga, demonstrations and of course the museum itself. The Sieboldhuis has a large collection of Japanese cultural treasures.

My workshop will be about “Manga for grownups”, also known as geki-ga, seinen and josei. These manga are about realistic themes and the drawings are less mainstream as most manga that are published in the western world. I will talk about the works of Tatsumi, Otomo, Yamamoto and even Joann Sfár as part of the Nouvelle Manga front. After a short historical insight, I will give the workshop attendants an introduction into making your own “manga for grownups”.
